With all of the options available for your favorite cigars. A important accessory to make sure to have in your collection is your lighter. To buy lighters that are specifically for cigars, you don’t want to use your typical bic, or zippo, you will want to research what is best for you. When lighting a cigar, you need to make sure that it is a butane lighter. You don’t want to use any other type of fuel, because even when just lighting the cigar, you will taste the fuel when you are smoking the cigar. Butane does not have that taste or smell that will ruin a cigar. Your goal is light the end as evenly as possible. When lighting the cigar, it is best when you apply as little of the flame to the end of the cigar as possible. This will prevent the tobacco from getting carbonized or charred and imparting an unpleasant taste unto it. To do this, hold the flame about 2 inches away from the cigar, and slowly draw long puffs of air through the cigar. The flame should jump up to the cigar. With each new puff, rotate the cigar about a quarter of a turn. Continue this for 4-5 puffs and then inspect your work. If there is a tiny unlit spot, you can blow on it to accelerate the glowing coal to drift over to it. Then, take 1 or 2 slow and steady puffs. Then leave the cigar alone for about 2 minutes, as the first 1/8th to 3/16th of ash builds. This information on lighting your cigars properly, will help you buy lighters that are suitable for your cigar smoking needs.
Cigar Accessories: Buy Lighters
May 24th, 2010Review: White Owl Cigars
May 19th, 2010I have been a long time smoker of white owl cigars and recently have been online to see if I could find them for less than what I get them for locally. Just by searching, I came across many reviews of the White Owl Cigars that just tore the brand apart. I may not be a cigar snob, but I think that many of these people are over reacting. My favorite is the Ranger, which is a longer machine made cigar, I think the ring size is 6 x 34. It has a natural tobacco flavor, with mixed fillers and is a very mild cigar. I typically smoke about 3-4 cigars a day, so I don’t want to spend the money on premium cigars, for many reasons. Premium cigars tend to be a bit to strong for me, they take forever just to finish one, and they are ridiculously expensive. Call me cheap, but when you smoke so many a day, the cost of getting premium cigars would be out of my budget. I have never come across any problems with the boxes I have bought. They are always fresh and a great everyday smoke. I have read many reviews on the other flavors of the White Owl Cigars, like pineapple and grape, and all of them are negative. It may just be that the cigar is flavored in the first place. When I was young, I adventured out to flavored cigars, but they never were as good as a plain tobacco flavored cigar. I am not a big fan of sweets, so I have stayed away from the grapes and pineapples since then. I will continue to smoke my White Owl Cigars on a daily basis, and I recommend them to anyone who wants a mild, everyday smoke.
Stogies and Liquor
April 5th, 2010The standard match for a good cigar is frequently a powerful spirit – perhaps the refined sweetness of an aged rum or brandy, or the heady, smoky nose of a fine single malt Scotch or whiskey are faithful and true cigar companions. But what about the often neglected cigar pairing – beer?
Pairing any strongly flavored comestibles isn’t straightforward, and there are naturally both bad and good selections to be made. You probably would not enjoy ramrod cigars, for example, with a crisp Hefeweizen any more than you might drink a tannic red Chianti wine with raw oysters in lemon vinaigrette. Give me that refreshing pale Hefeweizen with those oysters and that’s a good match. And if you want to drink that young Chianti, set fire to the pasta pot and load on the Bolognese sauce. A hearty Italian dinner would also be a fine time to pop a rich deep stout with the power to carry its own weight under the load of acidic tomatoes and savory, spicy chunks of sausage.
Tobacco Pipe Smoking
April 2nd, 2010Grab your fave Dr Grabow Pipes, the best smelling savory tobacco you might find, and 2 simple pipe accessories and lets begin our lesson. Find a comfortable spot you can relax and enjoy your smoke. It is important for you to remember that learning how to pack, light, and smoke your pipe is something you can learn to perfect. It isn’t going to occur the initial time you light it up regardless of how many pipe smoking guides you read. It is something you want experience with to improve, so take time and chill. As with anything in life, learn from your mistakes. Packing Your Pipe. It’s important to ensure your pipe is free of any prior ashes or condensation for a prior smoke. Run a pipe cleaner through the stem and then blow on the stem to ensure nothing is obstructing the air passage to the bowl. I might highly suggest you turn the bowl away from your face or you will finish up with a face full of dottle ( ashes and unburned tobacco ). Take away the approximate quantity of tobacco you’ll have to fill the bowl and place it on a tissue. Ensure the tobacco is free of any clumps and the moisture level of the tobacco isn’t to wet. If it is let it sit out for 2 mins while you take in the unpolluted air of the evening. Loosely fill the bowl with tobacco. At anytime while filling don’t press down on the tobacco with your thumb or fingers. Also don’t pinch the tobacco so forcibly that you create clumps which you lost in step two. Now with your handy interfere tool press the tobacco down till its springy. The bowl should probably be around half to three / four of the way full. Remember the tobacco should be springy not rock-hard. Do a test draw from the stem. Is there any resistance? If so dump out the tobacco or stir it up with your pick and begin again. Otherwise fill the bowl back up and tamp it down again. Take another test draw. Again there should be small or perhaps no resistance. If there is more resistance the respiring through a drinking straw, dump or stir the tobacco and start again. If the tobacco still isn’t even with the apex of the bowl add more tobacco and tap it down until it’s even with the top. Another test draw should yield only a little resistance. Lighting the pipe is simple. With the pipe between your lips, light your match and use it on the tobacco in a rounded motion. You’ll want to make intensely shallow puffs on the pipe. You can most likely see the tobacco swell up or untangle in the bowl. That’s utterly normal and the first purpose to the burning light. This expels any additional moisture from the tobacco and prepares the tobacco for the True Light. After the fake light the tobacco may not be at the same level – the height of the bowl. Use your meddle to gradually compress the tobacco back to the head of the bowl. Be highly careful, here is where many amateurs make their worst mistake. Relight the match and again apply it to the tobacco in a rounded motion. Again a collection of shallow puffs will be critical to re-ignite the flame. If done correctly the tobacco shouldn’t unscramble or puff up like it did in the false light. If you have done everything right you should be enjoying your first pipe smoking experience. Bask in it. Like it. You will eventually get into a rhythm. If the smoke entering your mouth is hot you are going to fast. Slow down and take long regular puffs. If your pipe goes out while between puffs don’t be disturbed. That is’s ordinary. Just relight.
Stogies and Liquores
March 5th, 2010The normal match for good marsh wheeling cigars is typically a strong spirit – maybe the refined sweetness of an aged rum or brandy, or the heady, hazy nose of a fine single malt Scotch or whiskey are unswerving and true cigar companions. My Guy and His Cigars
January 29th, 2010My husband has been smoking cigars for several years now. I keep enlightening him to stop, for plenty of reasons. Of course because of his healthiness but the second is actually because it stinks our home up. He smokes about 2 a day and I let him know each day to go outside with it. We ultimately compromised and he is now smoking in our garage, if it is too cold to go outside. This way, atleast when i have guest over I haven’t got to light twenty candles. But recently, to my surprise I went in the garage to check on him and I smelled something terribly sweet and delightful. I was shocked. I did not know there were cigars that smelled good. I asked him what it was, and he claimed it was CAO Flavored Cigars. I didn’t know they even made flavored cigars. I asked him how it tasted and he said that he was surprised, it was sweet, but not so sweet. I still am not going to allow him come within with those things, but I was pleased to discover that there are cigars out there that don’t make me gag.
Flavored Tobacco and Cigars
January 6th, 2010I have been smoking rum flavored cigars now for a couple years and always wondered how they were made. So I did some investigating and found that there are a variety of ways that cigar companies are flavoring their tobacco. I have found that there are some companies who prefer the extracts, which of course are more expensive. Other companies use artificial flavoring which are rather inexpensive. There are a few ways that flavored tobacco is created. The first is to spray the tobacco, creating a mist for the tobacco to absorb naturally into the pores of the tobacco leaves. Some tobacco’s soak with honey, vanilla, rum and many of other flavors. My favorite is the Rum flavored Miami Suites Cigars. A sweet and mild cigar that I have enjoyed for years. Sometimes more absorbent tobaccos can sit in a dedicated room and soak up the aromas. The more unappealing way is to mop the tobacco with syrup. I also have heard that at one company, beer is a major part in their cigar process. I am not sure if that is true, but I would try it if I came across it.
Just a Couple Days until the Smoking Ban
December 29th, 2009All Right, my town has chosen a smoking ban for all public facilities, with only a few exceptions. I’m so done with my rights being taken away, I’m ill. I cannot understand the reason non-smokers have such a sharp judgement on what us smokers want to do. I understand that smoking is bad, but I made a conscience choice when I began smoking, aware of the fact it was not good. Just because non-smokers want me to quit, will not mean that it will happen. Smoking in bars has been a freedom, but most restaurants have a chosen smoking area. If you prefer not to to breathe in the smoke, don’t eat in the smoking area, you are not coerced to sit in that section. And as well as the jobholers of these pubs that say they are tortured by second hand smoke, what a joke. I worked in the restaurant business for over 10 years, and I know that most of theco-workers were smokers. Doing business with the public, tends to, drives you to smoke. Also, I have never heard any non-smoking co-worker ever protest about smoking while on the job in the smoking area. Putting a smoking restriction in restaurants and bars, can only save me money, because I will not go out after the the new year.
What I want for my Present: Cigars!
December 11th, 2009I have decided this christmas to beg for simple presents that my wife can determine easily for me. My selection, as always, is my favorite cigar from white-owl-cigars.com. She doesn’t even have to take leave of the apartment, she can go on the web (I have all my favorites sites saved) and place the order there. As far as anything else, she can head over to the closest retailer and pick something up. She mentions every Christmas that I am totally difficult man to purchase for. But we have been together for almost 15 years! And if she doesn’t know the things I admire by now, I give up. I constantly articulate every Christmas, “I got to have smokes”, I smoke 1 or 2 a day, and that adds up. I bought a humidor for holding my smokes, “what’s that for?” my wife askes. Well my love, it’s to keep my cigars alive. So, if you get me some for christmas I can keep them in that for a few months and pull a stogie when I am ready to enjoy one. Although I have to say, I was blessed with luck last year, my wife bought me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The prior year, she bought me a fishing pole, because I said I would like to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing only once since then, but guess what, I still puff 1-2 smokes a day. In the end what do I want for the holiday this year? I want Smokes, and anything else would just be an additional enjoyment.
Tobacco: Normal Practice for Cigars Smokers
November 10th, 2009Selecting a cigar: The size of the cigar will give you a basic indication of how full the taste is. The bigger the ring size, generally means, the smoother, fuller, slower and cooler the cigar will be.
Cutting a cigar: The cap of a handmade cigar must be cut before lighting it. You can do this with punch cutters, cigar scissors, or guillotine cutters. The guillotine is recommended for the perfect cut. Make sure not to cut the entire cap off, because it may damage the wrapper.
Handmade cigar lovers are known for their reverence of food and wine. One of the best times to offer a cigar is after a meal. Other great times to indulge in your favorite stogie are: during or after business meetings, while walking the dog, while on your way to and from work or essentially just any time you’re looking to enjoy the fulfillment and relaxation you get by a hand rolled cigar.
Smoking a Cigar: Cigars are meant to be appreciated and savored for the feel, taste and the aroma. Puff slowly. Don’t rush it. If your cigar extinguishes itself, it is proper to relight it within one to two hours. Any later than that, it will taste flavorless.
